Afrocentric Figure Abstraction

Paul Ayihawu was born in Badagry, the ancient city in Lagos, Nigeria.
His art is the contemporary interpretation of his African nature - his works capture the lifestyle and values of Africa; exploring moral and ethical values of culture in a new light.
Ayihawu works to express his feelings on changing socio-cultural issues; posing a question, solution or an alternate path in response to challenging issues in an aesthetic, revolutionary yet transformational way.
Paul Ayihawu employs a variety of materials in the making of his works, exploring Afrocentric Abstract and figure abstraction as his main form of art expression. He enjoys integrating Ankara Fabrics into some of his works in relation to demands of the subject matter.
Ayihawu’s process maintains a steady flow and his methodology retains fluidity as it takes the shape of the theme or subject, highlighting social issues and traditions in a contemporary light.
Ayihawu's vision is to stir up hope, freedom, love and peace in the hearts of people through his art.
His art draws inspiration from works of George Braque (Cubism), Mufu Onifade (Araism Art movement) and African cultural values that depict true essence of being.
