Clara Aden

Born Elizabeth Omolara Adenugba, Clara has been illustrating professionally since 1999. She studied Painting and Decorating at Federal Science Technical College, Yaba. Her portrait addresses the impact of climate change on the environment, with a particular focus on Lagos city and its inhabitants.
Aden has exhibited in the U.S, Norway, Germany and Hungary. Her drawings have been featured at Global images of U.S Women, Pennsylvania (2015) and the Amref Artball 9 2019), a premier African art auction and philanthropic event. She was awarded the Gani Odutokun Award of Excellence in 2016 by the African Art Resource centre, won the Global Network Research Development (GNRD) Freedom of Expression Art Competition in Norway in 2015 and came second place at the Buddy Bear Design Art Contest by German Embassy in Abuja, 2016. Aden is the beneficiary of the 2018 International artist residency award, Omooba Yemisi Adedoyin Shyllon Art Foundation (OYASAF). She recently participated in Project Space Lagos programme, a one week intensive experimental residency project curated by Nigerian-German curator Emeka Udemba during the Lagos Biennal in 2019.
